16C. Manor Cottage belonging to Carvajal y Girón family, one of the most prevalent among the Plasencia´s nobility of the time. It is located in Cabezabellosa, a quiet and beautiful mountain village. (read more…)

As this building, other similar ones have endured until now, they are spreaded among small villages in the area. These houses and palaces, though ended up being only used as summer residences (especially those which are set in fresh places, such as Cabezabellosa), probably in origin, they were permanent residents, whose aim was to exert some presence of institutional power by the nobility, in addition to the church´s, in crown land areas.

Trassierra and Jerte Valley were crown land, opposite those placed on the other side of Via de la Plata pathway, which were manor of the Duke of Alba.

A similar house is preserved, although very altered, in Villar de Plasencia, that is from the same family too, as well as another building in Cabezabellosa, “The Palace”, that remains throughout its structure, unlike the Piornal´s one, which is almost nonexistent.

Constructions with the same character, are especially abundant in Navaconcejo, Cabezuela and Tornavacas villages. On the other hand, in Granadilla´s Land and low Ambroz Valley area it ought to mention the palace of the La Oliva´s Marquis, and as buildings more unique, Sotofermoso Palace in Abadia, with its reneissancist garden, where writers of the time, as Lope de Vega, came; and Granadilla Castle, of the aforementioned Duke of Alba, upon this castle a legend weighs involving the nearby ruins of the Cistercian abbey, which Abadia village ows its name to.

This house was completely refurbished in 1998 by private means, respecting their conservation, using for that some noble materials such as stone and timber. However, it would not be established as rural house until 2003, the year we started offering our services.

Since then, we have continued to make improvements at both, facilities and decoration, in order to provide a more pleasant stay.

We hope you enjoy it.
